Swimming Lesson Stages
All our swim lessons follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme where students are rewarded throughout their progress
Baby and Toddler sessions –These lessons are the start of the learn to swim experience for all children. These awards are perfect for babies and toddlers and pre-school children who are new to swimming lessons. Ideal for gaining water confidence while staying close to adult support, these awards are followed by the existing Duckling Award
Stage 1 –Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 1 helps to build water confidence, while introducing water safety skills and the basic skills needed to build swimming ability.
Stage 2 –Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 2 sees swimmers develop streamlining to their strokes and travel without their feet on the floor, using a recognised leg kick.
Stage 3 –During Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 3, swimmers will develop their kicks, on both their front and their back.
Stage 4 –Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 4 sees swimmers perfect their leg kicks for all four strokes and further develop push and glides, while also being introduced to sculling.
Stage 5 –During Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 5, swimmers will develop their skills in treading water, learn the correct arm pulls for all four strokes and learn how to do handstands and somersaults.
Stage 6 –Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 6 teaches swimmers how to prepare for exercise, while developing an efficient technique for all four strokes and further developing surface dives.
Stage 7 –Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 7 focuses on fully developing all four swimming strokes, as well as building stamina and improving diving skills.
Rookie Lifeguard Awards
The Rookie Lifeguard Awards are for your children if they are budding lifeguards. Developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK in partnership with Swim England,
the Rookie Lifeguard Awards offer parents the comfort of knowing their children are aware of how to avoid dangers and enjoy the water safely.
The Bronze, Silver and Gold stage awards ensure children have a solid safety education, and have learned rescue and resuscitation techniques.
Each stage of the Rookie Lifeguard Awards is sub-divided into three levels and each stage runs roughly for eight to 10 weeks.
Your children can enter a course at any point during the stage and progress at his or her own speed.
Swimming Challenge Awards
Swim England Swimming Challenge Awards; although the majority of recipients for the Awards are learners from the Learn to Swim Framework Stages 1-7 and Aquatic Skills Framework 8-10,
the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Honours Awards are available for all to complete.
Learners will be challenged to develop a wide range of skills and stamina to achieve the Awards, focusing on good stroke style.
Swim England Adult Swimming
The Swim England Adult Swimming Framework is about improving confidence, technique and safety in the water, with no age limit.
Not everyone is able to reach their potential in the water during their school years. This is where swimming lessons using our Adult Swimming Framework can help.
Completing the Adult Swimming Framework open the doors to many opportunities.
As well as being able to enjoy general swimming with family and friends, you could move into the competitive side of swimming or join a Masters club which are aimed at adults over the age of 18.

Hannah Newell Swim Coordinator – “We believe swimming is an essential life skill that everyone should have the opportunity to explore. Whether you’re a child or an adult, swimming can help with motor development, improve your confidence and help maintain physical and mental wellbeing”
